Below are the files in PDF format that you might need. I have also attempted to update the files under the individual headings:

1)     With the exception of the general excellence categories that must be submitted in paper form, each entry must be submitted electronically as either a .pdf  or  URL (please make sure these are working URLs), unless otherwise noted.

2)     Entries must have been published or broadcast from March 1, 2013, through March 1, 2014, with the exception of yearbooks and some magazines that will have a 2012-2013 publication date.

3)     Individual stories from the newspaper’s official website are also acceptable for the individual entries.

4)     Television entries must provide a URL to the broadcast.

5)     Please ensure that the dateline appears on all newspaper entries. Photographs must include the cutline or caption if one appeared in print or online. Entries must include a byline or photo credit, or the author or authors must otherwise be clearly and indisputably identified.

6)     There may be more than one first, second, third or honorable mention in each of the individual categories, depending on the judge’s review. Conversely, there may be no award in a category if the judge feels that none were deserved. We are requesting that all entries of merit earn an award.

7)     FOR THE GENERAL EXCELLENCE COMPETITION, the contest period is March 1, 2013, through March 1, 2014. The newspapers, magazine and yearbook are hard copies that you will send to Polly Walter at UCA. The broadcast and online newspaper entries will be sent as URLs.

  1. five issues of the newspaper (three consecutive) must be submitted;
  2. one 2013 yearbook must be submitted;
  3. one copy of a magazine must be submitted (if you print two in a year, choose one);
  4. for television, two hours of consecutive original programming broadcast anytime during the contest period. For example, if you produce a 30-minute newscast twice a week, you would need to submit two consecutive weeks of your newscasts. If you produce 1 30-minute newscast, a 15-minute sports show and a 15-minute music show each week, you would need two consecutive weeks of these three shows to make your 2 hours of original programming. Broadcast entries include a working URL. (In the past we had some URLs for websites that did not work for the judges. Please be sure yours are working.)

8)     Advisers: Please send completed copy of the 2104 ACMA Contest Categories form with your check or purchase order with the 2104 Spring Convention Pre-Registration Form. The entries are figured $5 per individual entry. A fee of $25 per general excellence entry is required. Editor, Photographer, Designer, Reporter, Producer and Anchor of the Year entries require a $20 entry fee. Fees are non-refundable. No on-site registration for individual contests will be accepted. Membership in Arkansas College Media ($15) is required.

Entries MUST be postmarked between March 3 and March 7, 2014

INDIVIDUAL CONTEST ENTRY FORM/RULES

Arkansas College Media staff members are encouraged to enter any or all of the categories of individual competition or general excellence as appropriate.

This is our first attempt at submitting the entries electronically. I know this will sound confusing, but if you work through the instructions once, you should be ready for the rest of the entries. Please label your entries and entry form correctly. No one will be sorting these by hand as we have in the past, they will simply be dropped into files for the judges.

Please gather all your individual contest entries by overall media outlet — i.e., newspaper, online newspaper, yearbook, magazine, television — and place them in a folder labeled with your school name and category (i.e., UCA_Newspaper, UACCM_Television, OBU_Yearbook ). You may submit only three entries per category per media outlet, just as we have done in the past. Any entries after 3 will be disqualified and tossed.

For example, using your school abbreviation, list your items as 1N_ASU_1; 1N_ASU_2; 1N_ ASU _3 (for the 3 Newspaper Newswriting entries); 13Y_UALR__2 (for the 2nd of 3 Yearbook Academic Writing); 3M_ATU__2 (for the 2nd of 3 Magazine Feature Layout entries), and so on and so forth. For Online Newspapers and televisions entries, please list the working URLs on the form and then label the form as your entry (i.e., 2TV_Harding_1; 3TV_HSU_2; 6TV_UCA_1)

You must place an entry form with each entry.

Please copy the form provided below for individual entries and place it on the last/final page of your individual entry. If you have a two-page spread, create a third page for the entry form. Please see the Example Entry. Each entry should be saved as one PDF. If you already have PDFs of your pages, you can create a PDF of the entry form and then using Adobe Acrobat Pro (not Reader) you can create a single PDF under File>Combine>Merge files into one PDF.

You will then upload the folders holding the individual entries for each media outlet to Dropbox. Please upload your form and materials between March 3 and March 7 to: This will be sent to your adviser.

Good luck!
